Replacing a Lost License

The cost to replace a lost or stolen driver license is $12, unless you are within six months of your expiration date. If this is the case, your replacement license will be handled in the same manner as a renewal license, for a $20 fee. You'll receive your replacement license the very same day.
Not in Kentucky?
If you're out of state or in another country when you lose your license, you'll have to wait until you get back home and to your Circuit Court Clerk's office before you can begin the replacement process.
However, if you're away from home because you're in the military, a personal designee―usually a family member―can gather and send the necessary paperwork to you. Once you complete it, have it notarized, and send it back, your personal designee can pick up your replacement license and drop it in the mail to you.
Identity Theft
Although Kentucky doesn't require you to report a lost or stolen license to law enforcement, you might want to do so for your own protection. The DDL refers to the Federal Trade Commission as a national source of identity theft protection.
